Maurice Lacroix: Swiss Craftsmanship at its Finest
Maurice Lacroix is a prestigious Swiss watch brand, celebrated for its luxury designs and exceptional craftsmanship. Headquartered in Zurich, the brand operates from the Canton of Jura—an area renowned for its watchmaking heritage.
The story of Maurice Lacroix began in 1975, as part of Desco von Schulthess, a company with origins dating back to 1889 in the silk trade. By the mid-20th century, Desco had expanded into the luxury watch sector, representing elite brands like Audemars Piguet and Jaeger-LeCoultre. In 1961, Desco acquired Tiara, an assembly facility in Saignelégier, Switzerland, producing private-label watches. Leveraging this expertise, Desco launched Maurice Lacroix, a brand named for the artistry of Swiss watchmaking rather than any single individual.
Maurice Lacroix quickly gained acclaim, shifting entirely to its own production by 1980. The acquisition of case-maker Queloz S.A. in 1989 set the brand apart by enabling in-house manufacturing—a rarity among luxury watchmakers.
The 1990s marked a turning point for the brand with its “Les Mécaniques” line, later renamed “Masterpiece.” These watches, blending traditional Swiss artistry with innovative movements, propelled Maurice Lacroix to elite status. This collection featured stunning complications such as retrograde movements, jump hours, and power reserve indicators.
In 2006, Maurice Lacroix debuted its first fully in-house movement, the ML106-based “Masterpiece Le Chronographe.” Subsequent manufacture movements embraced modern, bold designs while maintaining the brand’s commitment to precision.
Now an independent legal entity since 2001, Maurice Lacroix represents a rare breed of independent Swiss watch manufacturers. With a global presence in over 60 countries and a network of 4,000 shops, the brand continues to impress watch enthusiasts worldwide.
Masterpiece Collection Highlights:
The “Masterpiece” line showcases limited-edition models featuring heritage movements refinished to perfection. These include alarm wristwatches, chronographs, and other iconic designs, alongside extensively modified ébauches offering intricate complications.
Innovative Sponsorships:
Maurice Lacroix has partnered with visionaries like Jimmy Wales, musician Bob Geldof, and golfer Justin Rose, enhancing its reputation through creative brand collaborations.
